Brett & I have had this little tradition for the past few years, we don't have a name for it or anything. Since having kids we haven't really ever bought presents for each-other our focus has always been on the kids and our families we always say to each-other to not buy anything for each-other so Brett came up with this fun idea a few years back so him and I could enjoy it together....We get $10 each and 10 mins each head into K-mart ( as it's the only big main shop in devonport) and try and find something for each-other with our $10 and 10 mins. It's really fun and we race around the shop trying to figure out what to get and meet back at a certain point after those 10mins, now we involve the kids as Lacey is at that age where she understands about presents BJ's still a little too young but of course he is still involved. The kids buy for each-other with the help of us, and Brett and I buy for each-other...so This morning we headed off to celebrate our Christmas in July! Lacey & I teamed up, Brett and BJ teamed up and off we went, racing around the shops trying to get what we needed in those 10mins. Oh and for the kids they only spend $5 on each-other. It's not so much about the present and if its a good present or not, its more the "fun" and "thrill" of it and it can be a big challenge! 10mins and $10 is really not that much when you think about it. It's super fun, and we love doing it - I think this will be a tradition we will try carry on for as long as we can. We do it again for each-other at Christmas time too! Here is the outcome of our spending's! --->
This is what i got Brett, we make our own cold rock ice-cream a fair bit and i thought these utensils would make it so much easier and quicker!
This is what Brett bought me, a WII game for $9!! Bargain, i played a bit of it when we got home it's actually really fun - you can make up your own dance routines add music etc ... If you've read my last post you'll understand my passion for dance. And a bag of my Fav choc covered bullets yummo!
BJ bought Lacey some play-dough toys
And Lacey chose a toy truck for BJ, this is actually his first toy truck!
After our little shopping spree we headed to the DVD store to grab a DVD and some snacks, Brett chose the DVD
Ponyo - A Japanese animated film. Lacey loved it. We came home cooked the popcorn and watched the DVD. What a fun Christmas in July day!

What a fantastic idea Kayla :)
ReplyDeletecute idea!
ReplyDeleteawesome!! love this tradition!
ReplyDeleteFab tradition Kayla!
ReplyDeleteHaha sounds fun! We had something like that. My family used to go on holiday up the sunshine coast each year and there was always a strip of really cute shops. We'd play 'Secret Sibling' where we'd pull a name out of the hat and have about 20 mins to buy something for that person in the family. When we were younger we only had $3 but as we got older it changed to $5. Anyway, so I totally know what you mean about how fun it can be.
